Admired for her “pure poetry” and “beautiful technique and sound” (NFA Chronicle), Ji Weon Ryu was recently appointed Principal Flute of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout her career, she has performed with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, New York String Orchestra, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, and Verbier Festival Orchestra, working with world-renowned conductors including Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Manfred Honeck, Fabio Luisi and Tugan Sokhiev. Since her soloist debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 12, Ji Weon has maintained an active solo and chamber music career in the United States and Korea. She won First Prize at the New York Flute Club Competition and the Young Artist Music Award from the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation in Korea. Select highlights of her chamber music performances include playing at the Beaches Fine Arts Series, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Lincoln Center’s Paul Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Morgan Library and Museum, and with the New Orleans Chamber Players and Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players. Originally from Seoul, Korea, Ji Weon holds degrees from The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music.
