The course will lead listeners on a journey through vocal works from the ancient past to the modern era, encompassing a wide range of styles from classical and jazz to pop and rap - listeners will travel on a sonic journey through different time periods and stylistic epochs.
After the success of our first online music appreciation class in December, we are thrilled to announce a four-part epic as part of our ongoing MusicalMusings:|| series. Titled “The Story of Song”, the course will lead listeners on a journey through vocal works from the ancient past to the modern era, encompassing a wide range of styles from classical and jazz to pop and rap. Led by accomplished composer and educator Peter Kramer, this course will unlock the secrets of song for listeners of all ages and levels.
In the first class, Kramer will answer the timeless question - “What is Song?”, introducing the building blocks of vocal music through examples from ancient works to The Beatles and Beyoncé. Throughout the course, listeners will travel on a sonic journey through different time periods and stylistic epochs - from Schubert and Kanye West in Class II to the poetic and enigmatic world of Robert Schumann in Class III. The final class of the series will take listeners through new colors and explorations in vocal writing, from the Impressionistic works of Debussy to recent experiments in song.
