July Playlist: Kinderszenen

main-image.jpeg

A playlist of childhood dreams, from Robert Schumann and Igor Stravinsky to Giacomo Puccini and Broadway musicals.

For the month of July, we present a playlist of childhood dreams - a musical journey through different compositional voices and genres. We depart from the storybook realm of classical music, exploring works that have their roots in children’s stories and paintings - The Nutcracker and Cinderella, to name a few. We then take brief stops through our beloved genres, Broadway musicals and Italian operas - through the magical world of Cats, the sly tunes of West Side Story, and the elaborate spectacle of Turandot. We complete our musical journey with the jazzy piano concerto in G by the master of orchestral colors, Maurice Ravel. Childhood is ripe with the wonders of possibility, the thrills of the unknown, and the majesty of exploration.
